HOPE KUCHING STUDENT MINISTRY

In 2008, Hope Kuching was proud to officially launch the Student Ministry. This ministry consists of the secondary, college, International Fellowship (IF), medical and nursing and Indonesian students, filled with the desire to raise a generation of youths firmly grounded in the Word of God, eager and passionate to fulfil the Great Commission. With Jesus as the banner of this ministry, we believe that these young people will greatly impact their families and friends wherever they go!

Of course, every great thing has its humble beginnings. For the Hope Kuching’s Student Ministry, it all began with a combined student service on a Saturday afternoon, March 2008. The theme was “Zero to Hero” and it blasted off with the vibrancy of the youths worshipping God and Jesus as our Hero and it was indeed, by God’s grace, a success! From then on, similar student services were held on a monthly basis and God’s presence, church fellowship and fun always filled the Main Sanctuary. In this way, the Student Ministry continued to reach out to youths all over Kuching.

A Chosen Generation

History was made on 30th August 2008 as Hope Kuching’s Student Ministry officially launched the very first Student Service in the whole of Malaysia! Themed “Chosen”, Ps. Denis Lu, Hope Kuching’s Senior Pastor, gave a message of exhortation based on 1 Peter 2:9.

Even as youths, we have been set apart by God as his chosen generation to proclaim His good news! It was truly wonderful to see over a hundred youths from various backgrounds united as one body of Christ and being vibrant for Jesus!

Empowering Youth

Being Holy Spirit-led, the Student Ministry has taken a step further by having Student Services weekly on Saturdays, 4 p.m.

This ministry aspires to grow youths to be matured spiritually, knowledgeable in and doing the Word of God, possessing leadership qualities and having a passionate heart for God’s lost sheep.

This empowers youths to be His workers in their diverse harvest fields, especially once Hope Kuching moves into their new church building in mid 2009.

Youth fulfilling God's calling

As Paul the Apostle mentioned in 1 Timothy 4:12, people are never too young to respond to God’s calling to build His kingdom here on earth! As Peter exhorts in 1 Peter 2:9, God’s calling extends to all youths as well.

By God’s grace, the Hope Kuching Student Ministry will continue to expand and nurture youths who will indeed make a difference for God in Kuching and everywhere they go!

(1 Peter 2:9) But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

The Kick Off Carnival

Wow! What a great kick off to usher in 2009. Yes, i am pointing on "Youth Sports Carnival 2009". The torturing, amazing and laughing scene is still rolling in my mind clearly.

Personally as the organizing chairman and emcee of the event, i was so inspired and encouraged by all of the 60++ youths' spirits and coordination. Thanks guy, you guys are just just vibrant! Constantly energetic throughout the games, despite of its difficulties and toughness. You persevered through.

Indeed, what a great kick off to inject the theme "Let's not give up!" into these participants!

Another 49 weeks to go! 200 lives to reach out! Let's not giving up! =D

3 weeks to go before we will officially resume our Youth Service 2009! Let's get ready, prepared and wow-ed! What i mean of this W-O-W here...is Walking On Water..

Bible is the Word for our life. It's full of promises from God, Lesson we can learn, comfort we can gain and many more. But sometimes we did find hard to get the story and the meaning behind the passage we read. Here is the tip for a better Bible study "The 8 P's System of Bible Study".

1. Point
- What is the main idea in the passage
- One sentence

2. Problems
- What don't I understand about the passage?
- What struggles do I face in life that relates to the passage?

3. Profit
- What can I benefit from the passage?

4. Principles
- What eternal principles can I derive from the passage, which is applicable across time, culture, and geographic location

5. Passages
- Which other scripture passages talk about the same or related issues and can provide comprehensive classification?
- What scripture examples can I recall that relates to this passage being studied?

6. Pictures
- What illustrations, life examples, quotes or stories come to mind as I study these passages?

Greetings to all brothers and sisters in Christ,

Perhaps, most of us are very familiar with our church vision -Matthew 28:18-20-

" 81Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Perhaps, many of you have been hearing this statement for hundreds times. But right now, i would like to share my little thoughts on this statement.

Just few years back, while doing my usual routine, suddenly there's this quote sparked in my mind which i believe is strongly from the Lord. It says "All disciples are Christians, but not all Christians are disciples".

Reckoning upon the spontaneous quote again, i find it actually makes sense. Utter truth. When i re-read the greatest commission of Jesus Christ to His disciples, He commanded "...therefore, go and make disciples...." He did not say "Go and make believers...."....

I was once again convicted by the word "disciple" by Jesus. Disciples literally does not mean just believers, but followers of Christ. And following of His saying, He mentioned "...and teaching them to obey everything that i have commanded..."

Wow... It's aligned! A follower that obey the commandments. And after i read the Greatest Commission over and over again, I believe that we, Mad Gen should not just build believers of Christ and just stop at there, but beyond that, let us continue on and build strong and biblical people.... strong and biblical students...strong and biblical youths for this generation.

Make up our mind. Take the Great Commission into our heart. Understand every word that has stated by our Lord Jesus. For it will definitely help us in building a true Strong and Biblical disciple of Christ.

A Holistic Church -Recap-

It was our 12th Bible Conference on last week. A quarter assembly for the Eastern Hope Churches, whereby various daughter churches will gather in one accord for one reason.

Indeed, as expected, this 12th Bible Conference brought a tremendous revival to life after life God moved. God spoke. I don't know where to start writing. Too many to write. Just let every snapshots speak of its description.

#The Ushers#

Indeed, the first thing that impacts the congregation when enters into the hall is not how great the worship leader is, nor how powerful the preacher is, but it's actually how hospitality and cheerful the ushers offer.

True true. Never underestimate the capability of being in the usher team. It's POWERFUL. I was personally encouraged so much when i stumbled upon this usher team, wearing the bright breastplates, shiny crowns and sincere smile. Everyone enjoyed. =D

One thing that i have learned from Torchie is that, when it comes to Praise and Worship, there is no more worship leader, musicians...vocalists...on stage leading but only worshipers...worshipers ..true worshipers. And with this, we allow the Holy Spirit to be the One leading us into God's presence.

Wow... I am so privileged to be able to serve together with both of them in one team. I have captured some good points throughout the section of rehearsal and the actual day. Will share with you guys when i'm free. LOL...

That's how we, young people should express our thanksgiving and praise offering unto God. It's biblical to clap, sing, and even jump in praising God. For our God deserve the very best from His worshipers, you and I.

The theme for this time round of Bible Conference was "A Holistic Church". In order for us to be effective and efficient, we must ensure that we are healthy holistically as well use a holistic approach to preaching the gospel and making disciples.

The Congregation.

Here are some of the things that i have jotted down:

-Many time, we tend to function as a member of "Para-Olympic", and we do not function properly. Our spiritual life is half paralyzed.

-If you want to be emotional-healthy person, you need to be healthy first in public relationship with the people around you.

-When people are not healthy spiritually, they tend to hide away from you, the church and even from God.

-Christian community should be the less concern community, because Matt 6:33.

-Selection [Select God-fearing men with good quality], Instruction [follow the way of the Lord], Delegation [assign the tasks to people and know the gifting of our people], Execution [do it excellently].

ssshh.....concentrate during preaching. No talking...

These pictures are just a small portion of the entire event. Many great things happened!

Praise the Lord. God moves in some areas in my life. And convicted me. I pray that all of you who have attended will spend some quality time and reflect upon the things/sharing that you have captured and start applying into your growth.

It's a great 12th Bible conference, but what makes it even greater is when each and everyone of us take the steps to walk the talk. Amen?

Baptized Babies

Baptism. What is it?

The word "baptism" is in Greek "baptisma" while "to baptise" is in Greek "baptizo".
In Greek "baptizo" means "to immerse, cause to be dipped, to submerge, to overwhelm". To baptise something in water means to put it under the water.

Therefore in the Biblical sense, to baptise a person in water literally means to put that person wholly under the water.

Water Baptism - What does it symbolize?

According to the Bible, the symbolism of baptism declares that three things happen to believers who are baptized:

(1) they die with Christ to their old self;.
(2) they rise with Christ to become a new creature;
(3) they are incorporated in their new life with a living community which looks for the coming of the Lord (Romans 6:1-11).

I just reached home not long ago. And i sense the zeal to quickly post this writing now before i call it a night. *not going to yawn now* =P

Indeed it is a great night. Great as in not just the fellowship among the brothers and sisters, but great because of the impartation of the seasonal Words from our brother, Torchie from Hope Brisbane.

"The Heart of Desperation"

Moses and the Glory of the LORD

12 Moses said to the LORD, "You have been telling me, 'Lead these people,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, 'I know you by name and you have found favor with me.' 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. God is omni present. He's everywhere. Everywhere that we go, He's always there. Always and never fail. When we close our eyes, we are seeing just a black piece of picture. Yet, deep down in us, we know that there's a God who cares for us, who loves us, who is there watching us. And God is not done with us yet, therefore our aim is always to know and love the Lord more and more and more each day of our lives.

Desperation is the key to God's presence. We need to be desperate enough to reach out to the Lord's hand. The important key is not the maturity of our level in serving, but it lies in the basic foundation, which is the love relationship with our Savior -Jesus-

Such relationship that will be solid and always stand firm regardless of any hit and strike from the devils. No one, no other things can break the relationship between we, and the Almighty.

Let's also seek the Solver, not the solution. Many times, when we are too focus on the solutions and we neglected the Solver. Same goes to, we often tend to ignore the Giver, and focus on the gift itself. Therefore, people, let's truly come back the the very very First Love where you and I know the Lord personally for the first time.

"No bible, no breakfast"... Yea, we better start applying this biblical quote in our daily life eh. No play play. Don't laugh. No bible, no lunch. lol..

Nonetheless, what our brother, Torchie has mentioned is very true:

Unity.

Regardless of our age, race and occupation, our calling is to be united as one. Always.Unity brings blessing and it pleases the Lord. No conflict. No misunderstanding. No scolding. No hatred. But only unity in us.

I'm truly inspired. See you on Bible Conference. Torchie will be leading P&W on Friday night.

12th Bible Conference

The date is approaching nearer and nearer. With only 3 days to countdown and we, together with the East Malaysia's Hope churches will gather in MBKS to kick off our 12th Bible Conference. All in one purpose, that is to learn and grow together in this Bible Conference.

A Holistic Church

Yes. That's our theme. I am so convicted that this will not going to be just another section or session of teaching, but these three days will surely be filled with life transformation. Whereby the members in the House of the Lord will fathom in regards of the biblical aspects of the word "holistic".

Excited and exciting!

We will have two special invited leaders, Torchie and Chris Bee from Hope Brisbane joining us for this conference. Torchie will lead Praise & Worship for the Friday section and conduct a worship workshop on this coming Thursday night.

Everything will be so in tune, i believe. Therefore, people of MAD GEN: Let's pray. Prepare our spiritual mind properly and get ourself in tune with God's leading.

Prayer Points:

1) Pray for every programme, teaching, praise & worship, testimony, presentation and lots more, to run smoothly and in order.

2) Pray for every person on duty, whether from the stage or at the back that God will grant them wisdom, knowledge and skills in order to lead and co ordinate for the entire conference.

3) Pray for the hearts of the people. Yea, that's right. You and I. We need to make sure our hearts are always ever ready and sensitive when God speaks to us through the various programme ahead. Our hearts to be humble, soften, opened and teachable.

4) And lastly, let's not forget to uphold all of our members in our care group and unit into the Lord's hand. We pray that every youth will be touched and stirred deeply by the messages shared by pastors. And how true it is that "Faith comes from hearing the Word of God."

Therefore, young people of the GREAT God, have you registered yet? It will surely going to be a great conference and life transformation ambiance.

Meanwhile, allow me to broadcast to you all, a superb and inspiring movie. Yes, a-must-watch-movie indeed!

Seriously, it's really infrequent nowadays to seize on good movie on cinema and in the market. And what i mean by "good", is not those cool or action-driven storyline. People kill, people die. Nope nope. Of course, every movie is permissible to watch, still, not all are actually beneficial to us. Hence, we need to be wise enough to view beneficial movie.

On Wednesday night, College Care Group has its quarterly Movie Night!!! Woot..!!

Praise God that we have new friends visiting us for the very first time. Jack, Johnny and so on... Perhaps, it might be owing to the fact of watching movie, they quickly joined. Hmm... means that next time we should more and more movie nights.... LOL

We watched:

Patch Adams.

This is an old movie. Inspired by a true story. Probably some of you might have seen this movie already. But it's always good to re-watch it again yea?

2 hours of worth watching indeed! It's basically a man, Patch Adams who is always desired to help people, care for people and love people. And Patch believes that by becoming a doctor, he will be able to help many other patients. Yet, he believes that theoretical medic facts by just memorizing will not help the patients, know the patients personally, therefore he believes that through laughter, hospitality and humble oneself down to the patient's level are the actual way to help those needy.

Of course, those descriptions are just a small portion of the entire scripts. Watch it!!!

Sure enough, i have captured heaps of lessons from this movie. It teaches us not to concentrate on the pain in front of us. We should not let our temporary problems or obstacles to cover us from seeing the even bigger pictures in front of us. Those are just short-term in our life journey. Therefore, we should focus, focus on the BIGGER vision/goal ahead of us.

Patch Adams does not allow his temporary lost and his rivals' despise to stop him from achieving his goal that is to help the needy. He focuses on the bigger and greater goal of his.

Secondly, what do you think you will look like if you wear a moody facial on your face? Likewise, if we wear a smile on your face, how will we look like?

It's a subjective answer, i believe. Yet, Patch Adams has demonstrated the outcome when he chooses to cheer and offer laughter to the needy. It brings positive effects not to him only, but to the needy. "Laughter is contagious", that's the theme of the story.

Lastly, this movie teaches us that doctors, or to be more specific, we cannot just delaying one's death because death is actually part of God's purpose; but, we, everyone of us can actually improve the quality of each other's lives. We are inspired by Patch Adams' life example to humble ourselves to the same level of every needy and offer help, hospitality and humility.

Amen.

Y-Hope Mission Trip to Kuching

Proud to declare that Hope movement is undoubtedly an international family. A world wide church. With the masses mustard seeds saturated throughout the land, not only in Kuching, Malaysia; but also to the many parts of the world. Amazing!

Just few days ago, 8 youths from Hope Singapore had a mission trip to Hope Kuching. Two years back, there’s a team from Singapore landed in Kuching, led by Gwen. And for this time round, it’s different, completely different. Why?

Simply because we have more boys compared to the previous trip. LOL

Same as the previous arrangement, the Secondary was to host them, Daniel, Xanthe, Yenli, Sathya, David, Matthew, Ming Quan and Jared.

Throughout the few days, we talked and laugh and it was a great time knowing them. The privilege to host the Y-Hope youth was so great and exciting. Y-Hope is well known for their great hospitality, we also wanted to do likewise. We want to introduce all the wonderful food and place in Kuching to them and of course we want to correct their mindset of Kuching people still live in the tree if they do have this thinking. And most of all we want to make all of them felt at home.

On the first day they arrived, after having Laksa breakfast and unloading their belonging, the mission trip had begun. We went to Lodge International School to join their international Christian fellowship. It was a great time knowing so many people from different part of the world.

Getting to know one another

After hard and heart work, it's time to enjoy!

Y-Hope youth leading the secondary care group on Saturday night. It’s was an opportunity to learn from them. The sharing of Word of God by Bro Daniel was great, he shared about evangelism. Evangelism can just start with our daily action and behavior. It started with our heart and our spirit, the desire to bring people into the kingdom of God. Y-Hope had a project called ‘Project Salvation’. All the youth went to the street and just shared and draw the Bridge diagram. As the results of that courageous step, 19 souls being added into the kingdom of God. Praise the Lord!

I am not from a Christian background. Dad is a Buddhist and mum is a free-thinker. By all means that my brothers and I are not from any religious background.

Since many years back, around 7-8 years, I have attended various churches, temples to find and resolve the doubts i have. Yet, i have come to know our Lord, Jesus Christ when i am around 13 years old. And since then, my life has never been the same again. The moment when i am convicted to accept a God into my life, i have already committed myself and made up the decision to follow through and offer my life wholly to Him.

My two brothers, Roger and Morgan have also come to know and accept Jesus Christ as their personal saviour and Lord many years ago.

All these years, one of my consistent prayers is to pray for my parents to come to know the Lord personally. I know that the gospel is not for me only, but is for my parents too. As the phrase reads, "AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSEHOLD, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD". Yes, this is what i strongly believed in and hoping one day it will come to past.

I keep praying and praying and praying at all times. Tears sometimes just roll down my cheek when this burden strikes my heart. When i know deep down in my heart that i really want my prayer to be answered one day.

A few weeks and months back, when i have just reached home from school, i saw a Holy Bible placed beside my laptop. Filled with much curiosity, i asked mum why is this Bible doing at here? And mum told me that she has been reading it when she's free.

At that instant, i went speechless. I couldn't recall when was the last time i saw mum read bible, and now mum is reading bible?! Of 'cos, i was absolutely filled with great joy. A joy that gives me real security and peace. Surely, mum knows that there's a God and this God can be found in the Holy Bible.

It has been already weeks since i am dwelling with much burden and sadness in my heart. Mum is worried for my brother in Tasmania. Many times mum keeps telling me of how worried she is. How restless she is. Every time when mum tells me this, i don't know how to reply, i don't know what to say, but to constantly listen to mum's heart cry. It hurts.

Truly, i can sense mum's love and care towards my brothers. Her children.

Many times, mum prays that God will bless and give my brother, a good health, good in study, free from all harm, and can find a good job when back to Kuching. These sentences keep uttering out from mum's mouth. And believing firmly that there's a God to trust.

Mum is worry because elder bro is the first among us to leave Kuching and go to such a far place to study. Dad is not around with us for months. Yes, this burden has become a worry and perturbation and restlessness to my mum. And now, even to me.

Mum told me that she cannot sleep well, rest well and often wake up in the middle of the night when think upon this concern. I don't know how to comfort mum, i don't know how to encourage my mum, what i have done is to comfort my mum and tell her that everything will be fine. I will pray with my mum.

It's really melancholy and weeping to hear such heart cry from my own mum. The burden and perturbation carry on mum's shoulders.

They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household."

I will pray and i will keep praying for my family. My parents, my brothers. Pray that God will give mum a comfort, peace and assurance.

Today is truly a memorable happening for Shawn, Meyly and Ah Pio. Whilst the sun almost rises above the tiptop, a few of us quickly went to the Flower Shop, picked some custom made flowers and rushed to DUN.

Yes. Today, Shawn has officially graduated from Swinburne! So does Meyly and Ah Pio.

The hall was fully jammed pack with graduated students, parents and heaps of paparazzi.

Everyone is so excited. All of the graduated students dressed to the best and extra presentably, knowing that this very day is so significant even to both parents. Every parent is feeling overjoyed and proud.

The Fall

Perhaps many of you might, or might not come across to the latest shocking news of the fall of Pastor Mike Gugliemucci. For those who don't know who is this pastor, he's one of the pastors from Planetshakers church.

Earlier this year, Mike composed a song, healer which has featured in Hillsong's latest album that inspired many of his battle against terminal cancer.

True enough, this song, healer has become the anthem faith song for many believers who are battling against terminal illness and praying for miracle to happen. With 300,000 hits on Youtube, this song debuted on No.2 on chart.

However, the shocking news is, Mike's self-claim illness is actually a "FRAUD". Yes, unbelievable? I, myself was shocked too when i read this news a few days ago. I couldn't believe what i have just read. But, fact is still the fact.

Mike confessed to Australian Christian Church that his terminal cancer is actually "untrue". It's still unclear about the reason behind all this. Yet, this unexpected news might have hurt many of the people's trust. People who trust their appointed leaders by God, and when this happens, it will definitely leaves a deep and very painful wound that will always leave a scar to the members.

However, let's not let this news to hinder us. But allow this happening to be a lesson to learn for all of us. Plus, we are not to judge Mike too. Why? Simple because thinking about it, I have also told lies. Everyone has also told lies. I have also deceived others. Everyone has also deceived others. We, either way have fallen short of the glory of God at all times. We are imperfect beings.

Perhaps, it maybe not to such a large degree, by this world's standards. Like what Pastor Denis has always reminded us over and over again; "To God, 'small' and 'big' sins are still sins, there is no difference". How true it is.

Its like putting a drop of cyanide versus ten drops of cyanide into a cup of water. Both ways bring death to the drinker either.

Thus, let us once again check our hearts and make sure our foundation is rooted firmly in His First Love. The covenant relationship between you personally and God Himself.

Let's take this shock wave of earthquake to lead us into better “construction methods” in the structures of church leadership, designed to make sure that our accountability is still and always covenanted to our Creator -Jesus Christ-

Amen.

Half Night Prayer Meeting

It was the quarterly Half Night Prayer Meeting. Just got back a moment ago. I am feeling physically exhausted owing to my busy schedule of the whole day in campus yet i am currently spiritually refreshed after attending the prayer meeting! It's refreshing! Both sections were indeed moving.

In the first section, Pastor shared about consistency and accountability.

We should treat the Bible as the love letter from Jesus. And when knowing that its the love letter, we will certainly read it daily. Yes. Consistency in reading and studying the bible.

When it comes to accountability, we should also know that church leaders are God's appointed spiritual authorities and overseers over us. Therefore, we should not let our leaders' work be a burden but be a joy. Submit. That's only a small part of accountability.

In the second section, Pastor Denis shared from the book of Matthew 12:25-28.

a) Unity

-Unity is God's principle. And through unity, the people of God will receive blessings.
-Unity is not united through uniformity.

b) Spirit of God

-The spirit of God will help us to fight against the evil spirit.

c) Tie the devil

-As the children of Light, we should not let the devil take a foothold in our decisions and lives, hence we should get a rope and tie the devils up in order to not let them influence our mind.
-Thus, the sword of truth is not any sharp knife or hard wood stick but only the Word of God. Not any sharp knife or hard wood stick.

When i reckon upon the previous phrase, i think that it's so true that if we are not mindful of keeping prayer as part of our daily habit, we have definitely missed out God's divine power through prayer.

I have entered into the guy's washroom for years and years and i have reading this paper that sticks on the door everytime. And just now i purposely took a snapshot of it.

It's absolutely a month filled with heaps of excitement and creativity. Every single function and programme organised flow beyond our expectation. Last Wednesday we had our Kuching Festival outing. 44 people attended. Just last Sunday, we had our Bako Trip outing. 41 homo sapiens participated. Yes, God is involved!

And just last night, thursday night, our care group theme's about "Asian Halloween Night". Scary, as it sounds like yea? Nonetheless, with the boldness and courageous t0 invite our new friends to understand and learn more about biblical comprehension relating to what does the Word of God explain about spirit/ghost.

Awesome! We invited our very own lovely Aunty Ann to explain to us and answer all of our doubtful questions about hantu. It's great! Around 30 members plus visitors joined last night's cg. 10 new visitors!! woot! Praise the Lord...!!

In fact after last night's teaching, everyone came to once again realize that heaven and hell are real. Demons, evil spirits and fallen angels are also real. But still, God is greater and powerful than all these. For it says in:

"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

Yes people of God, let's not be fearful of hantu hantu. But strengthen our faith and trust in the Lord. For it reads in :

"Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.
The God of peace will soon crush satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you."

After the teaching, Aunty Ann gave an alter call for the new friends to accept Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. And ...*drum rolls*

Four new souls enter into the Kingdom of God! WOW! It's utterly amazing. From left to right, Will from Kuching, Karsun from Sri lanka, Vivien from miri and Qian Chen from Beijing accepted the Lord! The angels in heaven are rejoicing and celebrating!

Yes people, this is what it is all about. Seeing youthful lives come to experience the love of God and the Good News in this BIG family of God. **well done**

Still, the work is not done yet. More to come.

Let's therefore buck up, get even more ready, revise back the 18 lessons ans Samuel's lessons, recite the sinner's prayer and reap the harvest!

Bako Trip Review

We are back!

Undoubtedly, it's definitely one of the best outing trips we have ever organized. Everything was just so exciting, enjoying, memorable and well-planned. Glad to announce, 80% of the people got sunburn and the other 20% didn't 'cos they used thick suncream. Hmm...

6.30 am.

Such early morning before the sun appeared above the horizon, most of the people had already prepared their belongings and rushed themselves to Siang Siang Cafe and gathered. Absolutely not even sleepiness nor hesitation could stop us from going to Bako! Weee~~~

A total of 44 people from College group and Indon Group had signed up! Even so, only 4-5 people have actually been to Bako while it's the first time for the other 40. As we have prayed for new comers/friends, our prayers were answered! We had new friends joining us.

When everyone gathered as whole, I, Johnson the Camp Commander ... gave some briefings, arranging transportations and off we departed!

Don't laugh and don't ask me what happen. I'm not supposed to look like this at all times. It's just so happened that my face accidentally evolved into this odd looking facial and Christian quickly took a snapshot of my weird look. >.<

While i was busying giving some briefings to the people .... I had some unexpected guests paying attention to my announcement too...

I have never encountered monkeys THAT close in distance. 1 meter away!!!! We stumbled upon a grandpa monkey who's so so fierce and standing right in front of us and trying to block our way of entering into Bako.

Nonetheless, thank God for our superhero, Mr. Shawn. Filled with heaps of bravery, he tried to use his towel and wwe with that grandpa monkey. And the monkey fled instantly. Perhaps, it's due to the stinky sweat in Shawn's towel that swayed away the monkey. haha..

Soon as everyone was ready for jungle trekking, we headed to the second shortest route which was Teluk Sapi.

The Jungle Trekking looks easy yea. But actually it's rather exhausting and tough than we expected. Tiny staircases and huge rocks covered with green alga and fungus had certainly added on the toughness for us to do trekking.

It's challenging.

And finally! We reached our second destination, Teluk Paku! Thank God!

Indeed, brown sands and not-so-blueish sea. Plus the super dazzling hot sun, everyone was sunburned at that very noon. To cut the wonderful story short, we had some mini games.

40 people were divided into 4 teams with the names of: Orange, Banana, Apple and watermelon.

I should say everyone had really contributed their 100% energy and enthusiasm in making the games a success. A time where even the new friends enjoyed much with our craziness.

When Nish shouted, "Sound off!".. the group members then shouted "One Two one two...." and they marched as in they were marching around the War of Jericho... wait for the video uploaded!! LOL!

Sunday Sunday! It's exactly 15 hours left before the College & Indon Groups will enjoy the wonderful voyage to Bako National Park. I believe that not all of us have been to Bako, perhaps most of us have not even heard of Bako National Park.

Up to date, we have around 40 students registered for this trip. Three Australians will be joining us too. Yeap. Exciting! Do uphold us in your prayer.

Hey people!

It's definitely a super hectic week for we, the Swinburnians. As we have been praying earnestly for months and months to see our college group grow in both quality and quantity.

Numbers. Yes, this is what we desire to see. When our members slowly grow to become more mature in their spiritual lives, we also aspire to see new faces/lives joining us and be part of us!

Fishing. And Jesus, in the Bible, has called each and everyone of us to be the fisherman. To be watchful and alert in capturing new souls and bringing them into the Kingdom of God. Fish fish fish. New duty for the Swinburnians. Hmm...

Foundation Intake.

It is totally inexperience for us to do fishing in Swinburne. Worst to say when we need to approach total new friends/strangers and try to be their "new" friends. Trust me, it's really a crazy breakthrough for us. Most of us are so paiseh when it comes to evangelism. Even start saying "hello, are you a new student...?"

You know, something like that, has already become a barrier for us. Yet, knowing that we are doing for Christ's sake and the eternal fruits, we just need to overcome this together. =)

But of course, there is always the first time for everyone to undergo. We learned! Praise God, we have more than 10 contacts on the first week of Foundation Intake. Where ever we go, cafeteria, library, pavements... everywhere, we hoped for a lonely student and we tried to approach him/her.

Fishes. Swim swim...

New fishes. In total, there's around 250 plus plus new Degree and Foundation students enrolling for this July intake.

Like what the bible mentioned in Romans, "I am not ashamed of the gospel..." Yes, i believe that this is the key motivation to really spur us on and overcome our paisehness... We pray that God will open our eyes to zoom on the potential students. The lost fishes and the lonely students. Yea, we did try our very very best and let God do and take care of the rest.

Of couse, our job has NOT come to an end. Everyday is a fishing day for us.

Kuching Fest!!

Woot! This was in total craze. As we all know, Kuching Festival is certainly a great place for makan, especially for hungry human like me, Johnson. This is like a food paradise. Roasted Bird! woot! Nonetheless, this is also a wonderful opportunity for us to bring our new contacts to makan with us. You know, non local students would definitely want to come to such place and event to explore explore.

Melvin, the transportation coordinator was having a hard time to arrange the transportation for both members and visitors. Why it's so crazy...? Because amazingly our new friends bring their new friends.. wow! Cool! More people.. more and countless of people!

Like what i have told the Swinburne's fishermen this morning, everything we do or when we makan, must always consist of two purposes. First, is our physical purpose. We are human and makan is definitely a yes-yes and it's our physical body benefit.

And secondly is our spiritual purpose. Beyond just makaning, our aim is always to focus on fellowship. Build genuine connection with the people around.

We chit-chat with our visitors and new friends and understand one another's surface lives even deeper and closer. We have fun....food. And beyond this, our spiritual aim is always to build close and genuine relationship/friendship with one another first. And eventually set a Christ-like example for them.

MAKAN!

Seems like we had broken the records of Kuching Fest. The-most-combined-tables-in-one -single-row. LOL! Funny yet amazing!

Mainly are students from Sibu. And shockingly, a hand full of Australians from Melbourne joined us too. Cool! Can you imagine 4-5 Ang moh joining us..???

Everyone did a marvelous job in chit-chatting and following up new visitors. It's perhaps a long and tiring talk and fellowship throughout the late evening, but i believe every single minute and sentence are worthwhile when God is involved!

More than 20 new comers joining our Kuching Fest. Our prayer is to see and eye on those potential seed friends and focus on them. Bako Trip is next!
